Heirlooms and Nostalgia

I was sitting in the Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (Faculty of Cultural Sciences) food court yesterday and had this strange feeling. It's been just over a month since I've arrived in Indonesia, and things are starting to feel normal as I cement my daily routine and a close group of friends. It was one of those moments where I thought about out how far I had come, how far I still have to go, and where I want to be.

A few days ago, my sister recently found this old photo of my parents and sent it over to me.

Tata & Bunda circa 1992
We're not sure exactly what date this photo was taken, but they say it would have been before my eldest sister was born, so that's about 1992. This photo was also actually taken coincidentally whilst they were in Indonesia for their Indonesian wedding. The reason for this photo you ask? Well that dress is actually still in the family, very much used - and I wore it the other day.

There are some missing buttons on the back (sorry mum) but the dress still remains in tack. Knowing that this dress has been able to remain in tack through time, passed on to me (and hopefully will be passed on to my daughter one day inshaaAllah), makes me happy.

Things may move forward, fast and quick, but also remain static - and sometimes it's those things that are comforting the most.
